Themes
Apply a ready-made look, build your own theme in the full-screen editor, and share themes as files.
What Is a Theme?
A theme is a complete look for Tree Launcher, saved under one name. Applying one changes everything below in a single step:
- Background: an image, a solid color, a gradient, or your current wallpaper, plus an optional overlay and blur
- Colors: light or dark mode, the accent color, and status bar icons
- Icons: icon size, shape, fill, border, glyph color and icon pack
- Text: font, text size, weight, color and shadow
- Layout: row spacing and side margins
- Home header: the layout, frame, content and typography of your Home page header
- Home items (optional): the alignment of the items on your Home page and whether they show icons
A theme never touches your pages, items, apps or widgets. Headers on your other pages keep their own settings.
All themes live in Settings → Appearance → Themes, which has four entries:
- Edit Current Look: change the look you're using now
- Create Theme: start a new theme from your current look
- Load Preset: browse the themes that ship with Tree Launcher
- My Themes: the themes you've saved or imported
Applying a Preset
- Go to Settings → Appearance → Themes → Load Preset
- Tap a preset card to open its full-screen preview
- Tap Apply Theme
- If the theme includes a background or changes your Home items, a confirmation asks how to apply it:
- Also change Home items: turn this off to leave your Home items' alignment and icons as they are
- Keep my wallpaper: turn this on to keep your current wallpaper instead of the theme's background
- Tap Apply Theme again to confirm
Before you apply, the preview may show short notes about anything that can't be used exactly as the theme describes. For example, an icon pack you haven't installed, or a widget-stack Home header when you don't have Pro. In those cases, the rest of the theme still applies and Tree Launcher uses the closest fallback.
Undo
Changed your mind? Right after applying from the theme screens, a Look applied message appears with an Undo button. Tap Undo to restore your previous look, including your old wallpaper when Tree Launcher set it. Tap Keep to dismiss the message.
The Theme Editor
Every theme is edited in a full-screen editor that shows a live preview of your Home page. Nothing on your phone changes while you edit. Your changes stay in the editor until you tap Save or apply the theme.
To open it:
- Tap Edit on any theme's preview, or
- Choose Create Theme to start a new theme from your current look, or
- Choose Edit Current Look to adjust the look you're using right now
The bar at the bottom has a shortcut for each part of the theme: Background, Colors, Icons, Home header, Text, Layout and Home items. Tap one to open its settings, make your changes, then tap back to return to the preview. Tap All settings for a list of every part with a short summary of its current value.
Each part uses the same controls as the matching page in Settings:
- Background and Colors: see Colors & Background
- Text and Layout: see Text & Layout
- Icons: see Icons
- Home header: see Headers
- Home items: set Alignment (Not set, Left or Center) and Icons (Not set, Shown or Hidden). Not set leaves your Home items alone when the theme is applied.
If you leave the editor with unsaved changes, you're asked whether to Discard them or Keep editing.
Saving a Theme
- New theme (from Create Theme): tap Save, give the theme a name (and optionally an author), and it's added to My Themes. You're then asked whether to apply it now. Tap Apply Now or Not Now.
- One of your themes: tap Save to update it. You return to its preview, where you can tap Apply Theme.
- A preset: presets can't be changed, so saving an edited preset creates a new theme in My Themes with the name you choose.
Edit Current Look
Edit Current Look opens the editor on the look you're using now. Tap Apply when you're done, and your changes take effect right away. To also keep this look as a named theme, open All settings and tap Save as theme.
Managing My Themes
Go to Settings → Appearance → Themes → My Themes. The first two cards are Create Theme and Import Theme. Each of your themes follows them.
Tap a theme to preview it, or tap its ⋮ menu for more actions:
- Duplicate: make a copy to experiment with
- Share: send the theme to someone as a file
- Rename: change its name
- Delete: remove it permanently
Presets have Duplicate and Share too, but they can't be renamed or deleted.
Sharing and Importing Themes
Share a Theme
- Open My Themes or Load Preset
- Tap the theme's ⋮ menu and choose Share
- Pick an app to send it with
The theme is sent as a .treetheme file with a preview picture. If the theme uses your own photo as its background, that photo is included in the file.
Import a Theme
There are three ways to import a .treetheme file:
- Open the file from a chat, email or file manager and choose Tree Launcher
- Share the file to Tree Launcher from another app
- Go to My Themes, tap Import Theme, and pick the file
The theme opens in the editor so you can look it over first. Tap Save to add it to My Themes, and you'll be offered the chance to apply it. If you already have a different version of the same theme, you can Replace it or Keep both.
A theme made with a newer version of Tree Launcher may need you to update the app before it can be imported.
Pro and Themes
Fonts, text size, icon size and every other appearance setting are free, including inside a theme. The only Pro part of a theme is a widget-stack Home header. If you don't have Pro, a theme with one uses its regular text header instead, and everything else applies normally.
