Icons

Set icon size, pick a style, shape icon backgrounds, use icon packs, and change the icon of any item.

The Icons Editor

One set of icon settings styles every icon in Tree Launcher: apps, contacts, pages, notes and the rest. Open Settings → Appearance → Icons. The same editor appears as Icons in the theme editor. All icon settings are free.

At the top of the editor:

  • Icon size: drag the slider to make icons smaller or larger
  • Preview: three sample rows update as you change settings. Use the All Types menu to preview only Apps, Contacts or Tree icons.

Tap Save to apply your changes.

Starting Options

Starting options are ready-made styles to begin from. Tap one, then fine-tune it:

  • Original: each app keeps its own full-color icon
  • Plain: simple glyphs with no background
  • Soft tiles: rounded tiles with a light accent fill and a thin border
  • Rings: glyphs inside thin circles
  • Accent rings: glyphs inside accent-colored circles
  • Squircles: soft squircle tiles with an accent fill and border
  • Squares: glyphs inside thin squares
  • Accent glyphs: glyphs drawn in your accent color

Once you change any setting below, no starting option is highlighted. That's expected: your style is now your own.

Icon Background

Icon Background controls the shape drawn behind each icon:

  • Shape: None, Circle, Squircle, Rounded, Square, or System to follow your phone's icon shape
  • Background shape for contacts: turn off to leave contact photos and initials without a shape
  • Fill: None, Theme, Accent, App color (each app's dominant color) or Custom, with an Opacity of 25% to 100%
  • Border: None, Thin, Medium or Thick, with a Border color (Theme, Accent or Custom) and Border opacity

Icon Artwork

Icon artwork controls the icon itself:

  • App artwork:
  • Original: apps keep their own colorful icons
  • Themed: app icons become single-color glyphs that follow your style
  • Icon pack: use an icon pack installed from the Play Store. Choose it under Pack. If you don't have one yet, tap Find icon packs.
  • Show glyph: turn off to show only the background shape
  • Outlined glyph: draw glyphs as outlines, with an Outline thickness of Thin, Medium or Thick
  • Glyph shadow: adds a shadow behind each glyph
  • Glyph color: Theme, Accent or Custom. This colors themed app icons and Tree's own icons. Original and icon-pack artwork keep their own colors.
  • Padding: None, Small, Medium or Large space between the glyph and its background. App icons fill the shape; padding applies to other icons.

Changing One Item's Icon

You can give any single item its own icon:

  1. Enter Edit Mode and tap the item's icon. Or focus the item, tap Properties, tap ..., and choose Icon.
  2. The Edit Icon sheet shows a preview of the item. Tap Change artwork and pick a source:
  3. Use default artwork: go back to the item's original icon
  4. Tree icons: pages, notes, tasks, and Tree actions
  5. Material icons: a broader collection of symbols
  6. App icons: icons from apps on your phone
  7. Icon packs: browse your installed icon packs
  8. Optionally, set the icon's Glyph Color and Background Color. Each can stay on Use Icon Settings, which follows the Icons editor and any later changes to it, or be set to Theme Mode Color, Original, Accent, App color or Custom, where available.
  9. Tap Save

A custom icon still follows your icon style: its shape and size come from your icon settings. To pick a background color for one item, first turn on an icon background shape in Icons.

For items with no icon (like a plain text row), choose Add Icon under More (...) in the edit toolbar.
